Pakistan’s women cricket team secured a commanding 31-run victory over Sri Lanka in their opening match of the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Sharjah. After opting to bat first, Pakistan posted a modest total of 116 runs, with captain Fatima Sana top-scoring with a crucial 30 off 20 balls. Despite early struggles, including a middle-order collapse, her late contribution helped the team reach a competitive total. Prabodhani’s consistency and contributions underline her importance to the Sri Lankan team, especially as she continues to excel even at the age of 39. She took 3 wickets for 20 runs in 4 overs.

In response, Sri Lanka’s chase faltered early as Pakistan’s bowlers, led by Sadia Iqbal (3-17), restricted them to just 85 runs for 9 wickets in 20 overs. Despite efforts from Nilakshi de Silva (22) and Vishmi Gunaratne (20), Sri Lanka couldn’t recover from their shaky start, losing key wickets at regular intervals. Omaima Sohail, Nashra Sandhu, and Fatima Sana also chipped in with two wickets each, sealing Pakistan’s win.

This victory sets the stage for Pakistan’s next challenge against India in this Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.
